Broadband Light Treatment for Spider Veins

Spider veins are small, visible blood vessels close to the surface of the skin with a web-like or branching appearance. BBL helps to eliminate spider veins through a process called selective photothermolysis, which involves using specific wavelengths of light to target and heat the blood vessels while sparing the surrounding skin tissue.

How Does Broadband Light Eliminate Spider Veins?

• The BBL device emits a broad spectrum of light, including multiple wavelengths. The wavelengths used are selected based on the absorption characteristics of hemoglobin, the pigment in blood. Hemoglobin absorbs light energy, converting it into heat, which then cauterizes the inner lining of the vessel.
• The targeted spider veins absorb the light energy more effectively than the surrounding skin due to the higher concentration of hemoglobin in blood within the blood vessels. This leads to the heating of the blood vessels.
• The heat generated by the absorbed light causes the blood within the spider veins to coagulate or clot. Over time, the coagulated blood and vessel tissue is gradually absorbed by the body and the spider veins fade or become less visible.
• BBL for spider veins usually requires multiple treatment sessions spaced several weeks apart. The exact number of sessions needed varies depending on factors such as the size and number of spider veins being treated.
